Types of wine
Red wine
Produced with: dark-coloured grapes
Drink colour: purple, red, brown
White wine
Produced with: green or yellow grapes
Drink colour: pale yellow
Popular types of white wine include Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon blanc.
Rosé wine
Produced with: red grapes; their skins touch the wine for a short time to achieve the light colour
Drink colour: ranges from pale orange to almost purple
Fruits wine
Produced with fruits other than grapes
These wines are named after the fruit that's used in production. As most fruits don't have enough fermentable sugars as compared to grapes, fruit wines are not widely consumed.
Other types of wines include sparkling wine and dessert wine.
Tips for pairing wine and food
Red meat: pair with red wine
White meat: pair with white wine
The wine should be sweeter and more acidic than the food.
Match the wine with the sauce rather than with the meat.
